Cancer Research UK Primary Care Education Research Group
The CRC Primary Care Education Research Group was established in 1991 with funding from the Cancer Research Campaign (now Cancer Research UK).
The Group conducts research in the field of cancer education with an emphasis on cancer screening, cancer genetics and early diagnosis of cancer. We aim to improve the lives of those undergoing screening and testing by providing evidence-based information to help people make informed choices. Our current research interests include bowel cancer screening, lung cancer screening, PSA testing for prostate cancer and HPV testing and vaccination. In particular our programme of research aims to:
- Increase participation for cancer screening
- Promote informed choice
- Improve public communication about cancer screening and testing
- Reduce inequalities of access
- Identify factors to improve people’s experiences, minimise anxiety and increase satisfaction with screening and testing
We are committed to national and international collaborations and multidisciplinary working. This has placed our unit in a unique position to generate real improvements in the field of cancer education both nationally and internationally. We also have an established reputation with both the NHS Cancer Screening Programmes and the Department of Health Cancer Policy Team which ensures that the products of our research can reach our target audience throughout the UK.
